mapmyname - are you an internet user?

Monday, April 30th, 2007

Via one of my favourites spanish blogs (Enrique Dans), I have found mapmyname.com, a 2.0 cool application that expect ascertain Internet user?s number (in my opinion a bit difficult).

mapmyname are you an internet user

It is easy and user friendly, you have to find your location via google maps and register a few personal details, after that, you must invite three friends to join in, in fact the net will grow up quickly.

It pretends to find the rough amount of internet users in a month, (has been alive for one week and more than 8,000 people are already in).

Let?s see what happens!

the smashing pumpkins & the killers in madrid

Sunday, April 29th, 2007

smashing pumpkins killers madridA friend’s brother plays in STANDARD, a band from Bilbao (Spain) that have reasons to celebrate because they are going to play on a festival with The Smashing Pumpkins, The Killers and Kasabian.

I don’t know if they are going to be the support band for any of those or not, but doesn’t matter, the band is quite young and just to be in the same list of acts, in my opinion, is enough to celebrate it!

The festival will take place at Madrid (”Plaza de Toros de las Ventas”, 12th of June).

If you have never been to Madrid and love festivals, is a good chance to kill two birds with one stone :)

google is top brand in world

Wednesday, April 25th, 2007

Google was few days ago named the world?s top brand ? less than ten year after it was founded. The internet search engine topped a survey by Millward Brown. Google, valued at ?33 billion, beat last year?s winner Microsoft and Coke.

google is top brand in world

Anyway! Today I have discovered that the internet search engine Google was named after the number GOOGOL (1 followed by one hundred zeros) by Larry Page, one of the founders, because was fascinated with mathematics and “Googol”.

Another curious thing is the name from its headquarters, in Mountain View, California, that is referred as ?the Googolplex? (in mathematics a googolplex is 1 followed by a googol of zeros).

What a geeks!! :)

What does GFF stand for?
GFF is a 5 day party that has been held every year for the last 5 years and is held in Garrucha and Moj?car during the last week of June. Every single evening is different, for example, in 2006 there were a lots of parties; One in a country-side house; another in Mojacar and we had a great night in a “chiringuito” reserved for entirely for us. And on the Saturday night the well-known All White All Night took place. All White All Night demands that everyone attend in a white outfit. When the sun is rising and we glimpse the first sunrays, all clothes are ripped off and everyone throws themselves into the swimming pool. No exceptions, nobody gets away with it! And in between everyone enjoys the fabulous sunbathing, swimming and, seafood of the Mediterranean.

Who can come along?
GFF is a private party. Thus, you can come over if you invited. First of all, as we pointed out above, the party is not meant to make money. If we wished to get money out of it, we would invite everybody and charge a higher price… Nonetheless, this would GFF no more. Second, it a five day long party. We make sure everybody gets along to avoid any uncomfortable situation. Therefore, we know that ,by inviting only close friends, we ensure the party will be held in line with our arrangements and expectations.

you comment I follow

Friday, April 20th, 2007

Following the steps from techtraction.com and fuzzyfuture, I FollowI have just installed the plugin Dofollow in my blog.

By default, the link included when submitting a comment has the attribute “NoFollow”, in fact Google and other Search Engines do not follow that link. In my opinion should be an option within the WP admin.

Do Follow Plugins:

There are several WordPress plugins available to help disable the default nofollow setting. Originally I installed Link Love. This plugin allows you to set a required comment threshold, which means that ?Do Follow? only occurs after someone has commented a certain number of times. My blog is still very new and I need to provide as much comment incentive as possible. When I stopped to think it through, I decided that a comment threshold didn?t provide the right type of incentive for my situation. I removed that plugin and quickly switched over to DoFollow. All it required was a quick download, placement in my WordPress plugin directory, and a simple activation back on the Dashboard?s plugin section. Very quick and very painless.

Who does ?Do Follow??

Here is the part of the post that starts to help perpetuate the ?Do Follow? meme. What follows is a growing list of blogs that have disabled the default nofollow setting. If your blog is one that has jumped on this bandwagon, then follow the instructions outlined below and help keep this movement rolling forward.

Here are the rules of the D-List:

1. Write a short paragraph at the beginning of your post and link back to the blog that put you on the list in the paragraph. This isn?t a suggestion. You need to break up the duplicate content. Someone took the time to add you so the least you can do is give them an extra link back.

2. Copy the list of originals below COMPLETELY and add it to your blog. If you would like a different keyword for your blog then change it when you do your post and it should pass to most blogs with that keyword.

3. Take the adds from the blog that added you and place them in the ?Originals? list.

4. Add at least 1 new blog that you KNOW us using the DO FOLLOW plugin to the list in the ?My Adds? section. (Add no more than 5!) Let the people you?ve added know, so that they can keep the list going!

5. Leave relevant comments on the blogs listed and get a link back to your site thanks to Do Follow!

three ways to do a website

Thursday, April 19th, 2007

Yesterday I listened something interesting at the office:

? You have three ways to do a job:

??- Good

??- Quick

??- Cheap

But unfortunately you can only have two from these three ways anytime together. ?

You can do a job Good and Fast in fact is not going to be Cheap, or you can do it Quick and Cheap but will never be Good

A very good piece of advice! Isn?t it? ;)

eficiency… siesta at work?

Wednesday, April 18th, 2007

Netherlands, Belgium and Germany, the three countries with the shortest working day, presents the greatest productivity per hour worked, according to IESE-ADECCO that analyzes the labour market of 7 European countries.

Although Spanish workers spend more hours at work than their European neighbours, efficiency obtained per hour worked is shamelessly smaller :(

Gossip with colleagues, surf the Internet, coffee breaks, send emails to family/friends, smoking a cigarette? may waste up to 25% of the working day.

The conclusion is an easy arithmetic function:

less hours = smaller denominator = greater quotient
Take care if you are reading this article at work, maybe you are decreasing your country?s productivity rate; anyway is not my case, as I have never worked a single hour! :)

basketball NBA in london - I love this game!

Monday, April 16th, 2007

Since I arrived to London 6 months ago, I have improved my english a bit, I have realized that the weather is not as bad as the people believe and also that the basketball is not practiced in UK as in other countries.

But good news for the fans of basketball lining in London, Boston Celtics and Minnesota Timberwolves are going to play on the O2 Arena, as part of the NBA Europe Live presented by EA SPORTS this autumn.

The match will go ahead on Wednesday 10th October. Tickets for the event are on sale now and are available to book through theo2.co.uk or by calling 0871 984 00 02.

The Boston Celtics, led by Paul Pierce, are one of the founding teams of the NBA having won a record 16 NBA Championships. Behind the Most Valuable Player Kevin Garnett, Minnesota Timberwolves are sure to bring intensity and excitement to the game in the UK’s capital.

NBA Europe Live presented by EA SPORTS will also visit the Italian cities of Rome and Treviso; Spanish cities Madrid and Malaga; as well as the Turkish city of Istanbul this autumn.

wednesday evening - london - concert - MURDER BY DEATH - awesome - oh yeah!!

We have just arrived from the bush hall (perfect for live music), yes! I’m feeling pretty euphoric after the gig and no! I haven’t drunk too many beers! :)

My flatmate Pilun (you will read his name quite often) bought the tickets long time ago and to be sincere, I had not listened about Murder by Death before. Surprise factor!

As someone shouts at the end of the concert… unbelievable!

Anyway! I’ve taken a fancy to them!

Frucomerci.com is moving

Monday, April 9th, 2007

As lately I am having a lot of visits and my monthly transfer has been multiplied per 10, I have taken the decision and I am going to move this site to a Linux Server! (Finally, I will be able to change the permalinks?)

I seized the opportunity to say that I have tried (in many ways) to change the uri?s from my blog, and without access to the IIS and without a rewrite mode or an ISAPI filter has been impossible for me!

Sorry about the broken links and problems that the migration can bring about!

Thanks to everyone!

high school student designs killer concept phone

Sunday, April 8th, 2007

Who said IPHONE?? :)

High school student designs killer concept phone

I was pretty sure that my new gadget would be the Iphone from Apple, but I have found another one that commands my respect.

Its name is “Butterfly cell phone” and its designer, is just 15 years old, (in high school yet). The slick slider has a touchscreen, a weather indicator and Wi-Fi, not too bad… take it a look

Now I have more than one cell to choose between! Cool!

all you need to know to be a better programmer was in kindergarten!

Saturday, April 7th, 2007

I have found a funny but at the same time useful article that explains how all you learnt in Kindergarten can help you to become a better programmer.

all you need to know to be a better programmer was in kindergarten

Among others rules:

- Share everything.

- Clean up your own mess.

- Don’t hit people.

- Play fair.

- Flush.

- Be aware of wonder.

- Live a balanced life

I would point out the step 11:

Take a nap every afternoon.

Working 24 hours a day doesn’t make you more productive. Take breaks, go home, take a real nap. Often I have solved nasty problems by going home, and the solution came to me as I was driving away, or the next morning.”

Agree my friend, Oh yeah!! Take a SIESTA!! :)
