12345679 x (9 times n)

I’ve just read the last post from microsiervos.com and it reminds me of a couple of multiplication tricks that I used to do when I was at school.

Multiplying the number 12345679 by multiples of 9 (9 times n), the result gives you “nnnnnnnnn”

For example:

  • 12345679 x 63 (7 times 9) = 777777777
  • 12345679 x 45 (5 times 9) = 555555555

And the second trick is (I love this one):

Multiply 12345679 by 999999999 and the result is a mirror image of 12345679

12345679 x 999999999 = 12345678987654321
