“Work is For People Who Don’t Know How to Fish”

My father use to say another good one: “If you want to fish you have to dip your butt”

Ah! If you like photography, my girlfriend took this pictures when we where to Berlin…

parable: the fisherman and the investment banker

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

At lunch about a month ago, Chou, a friend of mine (an investment banker) asked me: “My friend, what are your future goals/plans?”
I remember replying immediately: “I want to live on the coast, have a small boat and spend most of the day fishing”

fisherman.jpg

Then he told me this parable:

An investment banker was at the pier of a small coast village when a small boat with just one fisherman docked.
Inside the small boat were several large yellow fin tuna. The American complimented the fisherman on the quality of his fish and asked how long it took to catch them.

The fisherman replied, only a little while.

The investment banker then asked why didn’t he stay out longer and catch more fish?

The fisherman said he had enough to support his family’s immediate needs.

The investment banker then asked, “but what do you do with the rest of your time?”

The fisherman said, “I sleep late, fish a little, play with my children, take a nap with my wife, stroll into the village each evening where I sip wine and play guitar with my friends, I have a full and busy life.”

The investment banker scoffed, “I am a Harvard MBA and could help you. You should spend more time fishing and with the proceeds, buy a bigger boat with the proceeds from the bigger boat you could buy several boats, eventually you would have a fleet of fishing boats. Instead of selling your catch to a middleman you would sell directly to the processor, eventually opening your own cannery. You would control the product, processing and distribution. You would need to leave this small coastal fishing village and move to a big city where you will run your expanding enterprise.”

The fisherman asked, “But, how long will this all take?”

To which the investment banker replied, “5-10 years.”

The fisherman asked: “But what then?”

The investment banker laughed and said that’s the best part. “When the time is right you would announce an IPO and sell your company stock to the public and become very rich, you would make millions.”

The fisherman asked: “Millions.. Then what?”

The banker said, “Then you would retire. Move to a small coastal fishing village where you would sleep late, fish a little, play with your kids, take a nap with your wife, stroll to the village in the evenings where you could sip wine and play your guitar with your friends. You’ll have a full and busy life.”

Take it easy man, take it easy!

are you going to berlin for easter?

Thursday, March 20th, 2008

Then this email may helps you!

Chaps, I am not going to update Frucomeci.com this easter because I am going to be off until next Tuesday… Wow!! Where am I going? Berlin! Sausage-Beer-Sausage-Beer-Beer-Beer… Coolio!

Why? Just tourism, No! I am not visiting the famous Angry German Kid, even though I would love to meet this guy!

Where about in Berlin? What am I going to do? For this, I am going to paste an email that Paul (a basketball’s friend) sent me yesterday with some Berlin information he pull out for me (very nice guy!)

For some rock go to the Sage Club

For Electro check out the Watergate, Weekend (this one has a great view over Berlin, cool one!) or Maria

Very “Trendy” are the Icon and Cookies, very hard to get in, I believe it is around Friedrichstrasse corner to Unter den Linden

For Nightlife information check out these ones: zitty.de and berlinonline.de

Bars, Pubs, Restaurants, etc. are around “Hackescher Markt” (is also a S-Bahnhof), very cool ? sometimes too cool area ? but definitely go there. Around there is a German restaurant called “Sophieneck” in the street called Sophienstrasse. Another german restaurant is “Hirsch” in the Kopernikusstr 3, near underground station Warschauer strasse.

Around Underground station Eberswalderstr are also a lot of “In” bars etc. The area is called Prenzlauer Berg. Also around there is a facility with several bars and different styles of music: kulturbrauerei-berlin.de

On Sundays if the weather allows it a Berliner goes to Friedrichshain to Simon-Dach-Strasse, get some brunch in one of the cocktail bars and after that to the makret at Boxhagener Platz…stylish people all over. If you go there check out a shop with scandinavian fashion called ?Vispy?, address is Gaertnerstrasse 26.

Very helpful mate!

Have a nice easter everyone!

banksy - the bear and the bee

Tuesday, March 18th, 2008

I’ve already talked about Banksy at this blog, but last weekend I saw this hilarious piece highly related to happiness at work on the side of a trash contanier in Notting Hill, and I think deserves a new post.

banksy_bear_bee.gif

The text is a parody of a “La Fontaine” fable and goes like this:

?Once upon a time there was a bear and a bee who lived in a wood and were the best of friends. All summer long the bee collected nectar from morning to night while the bear lay on his back basking in the long grass.

When Winter came the Bear realised he had nothing to eat and thought to himself ?I hope that busy little Bee will share some of his honey with me?. But the Bee was nowhere to be found - he had died of a stress induced coronary disease?.

banksy - wall and peace

Thursday, March 13th, 2008

Banksy - Wall and Peace, I’ve got this book at the office, and I’m used to check it out when I need a break…

banksy.gif

“A lot of people never use their initiative because no-one told them to.”

The book shows and explains some of the best work from Banksy, a British street artist with an international reputation who in my opinion does a f**g good stuff!

One important thing, don’t buy his street art in an auction house, its undemocratic, it glorifies greed and he never sees any of the money :)
