send images

As you already know, I am working as a web developer/manager. Many times people from the company have come to me asking me to send an image (flyers, brochures, whatever) by email, but not as an attached file - they want it included in the email as a content image. To do this is, it necessary to build an HTML email - not easy at all (sometimes imposible) with common Email tools (Gmail, Outlook, Hotmail,?) so I?ve build my own tool to manage it. In my opinion it?s easy, user friendly and most importantly, Free!

Try send html emails + images here

I know I haven?t discovered anything but when I tried to find something similar all that I found were ?Download programs?, ?Free Trials?, etc., nothing simple as this one.

posts by category plugin for wordpress 2.3

Saturday, November 10th, 2007

Finally I had time (even though I am very busy, I promise) to fix the wordpress plugin: list of posts by category plugin for wordpress for WordPress 2.3

list of posts by category plugin for wordpress

This plugin (very basic) displays a list of the posts from each category of your WordPress 2.3 installation. It can be added to a post or page, or used directly in a template file.

Is very useful if your posts are under one unique category because can work as a Sitemap from your blog, if not you are going to have duplicate links.

If you find any problem with the new release, please let me know and I will take a look as soon as I can.

edit your CSS II

Friday, October 12th, 2007

This isn’t my first post about how to edit CSS live

edit your CSS

As I told you, to edit my css live I use to work with the developer toolbar from mozilla and I think I will keep using it because is very useful, saved a lot of my time and has sort out a lot of small problems always have when I try to desing something that works for all browsers, I use to test it in IE6, IE7, Mozilla Firefox and Safari.

Yesterday, my friend Humberto sent me CSSVista a free Windows application for web developers which lets you edit your CSS code live in both Internet Explorer and Firefox simultaneously.

I downloaded the free version and it results a good tool, may be to similar to the mozilla one, but nowadays, every website is to similar to another one… nothing new!

They say the Internet Explorer is 6 but I have tested and is 7… Just to let you know and prevent you from a headache.

Anyway! Have a nice weekend!

my first wordpress plugin

Thursday, July 12th, 2007

Today I have developed my first wordpress plugin: list of posts by category plugin for wordpress (I need it for a new website I’m building…)

list of posts by category plugin for wordpress

This plugin (very basic) displays a list of the posts from each category of your WordPress installation. It can be added to a post or page, or used directly in a template file. In the plugin?s options page you can choose the header.

Is very useful if your posts are under one unique category because can work as a Sitemap from your blog, if not you are going to have duplicate links.

Perhaps you are going to find it useful, may be not; for me works… enough!

Another good website to bookmark (my bookmark list is huge). Ah! I have started using Google Notebook (with Firefox toolbar), I’ll let you know how it works, by the moment I’ve found it very useful!

Have you tried Google Bookmarks? Should I start using it as well? Too many google gadgets… At least google has sent me a t-shirt, a cap and a pen! :)

new version of google analytics

Tuesday, May 8th, 2007

I have just visited Google Analytics to check my statistics of last week and to my surprise they have launched a new version of Google Analtycs.

new version of google analytics

After taking a first look at the new version of Google Analytics, I have realized that they have redesigned the reporting interface, and seems that data is shown on a more clearly way. But in my opinion was easier to have a global view of the matter with the old version, why?, because for me was easier having the calendar on the right hand side more than having to click the date to load it! Apart from that looks more professional.

As we can read on their blog “The new version of Google Analytics is easy enough for a layperson to understand, but also offers the sophistication experienced users need”. Let’s see how it works, I am almost sure will be much better, these guys from google work pretty good:)

The good new is that we have one month to learn to use it (”you will still have access to the old version for at least one month”)

you comment I follow

Friday, April 20th, 2007

Following the steps from techtraction.com and fuzzyfuture, I FollowI have just installed the plugin Dofollow in my blog.

By default, the link included when submitting a comment has the attribute “NoFollow”, in fact Google and other Search Engines do not follow that link. In my opinion should be an option within the WP admin.

Do Follow Plugins:

There are several WordPress plugins available to help disable the default nofollow setting. Originally I installed Link Love. This plugin allows you to set a required comment threshold, which means that ?Do Follow? only occurs after someone has commented a certain number of times. My blog is still very new and I need to provide as much comment incentive as possible. When I stopped to think it through, I decided that a comment threshold didn?t provide the right type of incentive for my situation. I removed that plugin and quickly switched over to DoFollow. All it required was a quick download, placement in my WordPress plugin directory, and a simple activation back on the Dashboard?s plugin section. Very quick and very painless.

Who does ?Do Follow??

Here is the part of the post that starts to help perpetuate the ?Do Follow? meme. What follows is a growing list of blogs that have disabled the default nofollow setting. If your blog is one that has jumped on this bandwagon, then follow the instructions outlined below and help keep this movement rolling forward.

Here are the rules of the D-List:

1. Write a short paragraph at the beginning of your post and link back to the blog that put you on the list in the paragraph. This isn?t a suggestion. You need to break up the duplicate content. Someone took the time to add you so the least you can do is give them an extra link back.

2. Copy the list of originals below COMPLETELY and add it to your blog. If you would like a different keyword for your blog then change it when you do your post and it should pass to most blogs with that keyword.

3. Take the adds from the blog that added you and place them in the ?Originals? list.

4. Add at least 1 new blog that you KNOW us using the DO FOLLOW plugin to the list in the ?My Adds? section. (Add no more than 5!) Let the people you?ve added know, so that they can keep the list going!

5. Leave relevant comments on the blogs listed and get a link back to your site thanks to Do Follow!

three ways to do a website

Thursday, April 19th, 2007

Yesterday I listened something interesting at the office:

? You have three ways to do a job:

??- Good

??- Quick

??- Cheap

But unfortunately you can only have two from these three ways anytime together. ?

You can do a job Good and Fast in fact is not going to be Cheap, or you can do it Quick and Cheap but will never be Good

A very good piece of advice! Isn?t it? ;)

all you need to know to be a better programmer was in kindergarten!

Saturday, April 7th, 2007

I have found a funny but at the same time useful article that explains how all you learnt in Kindergarten can help you to become a better programmer.

all you need to know to be a better programmer was in kindergarten

Among others rules:

- Share everything.

- Clean up your own mess.

- Don’t hit people.

- Play fair.

- Flush.

- Be aware of wonder.

- Live a balanced life

I would point out the step 11:

Take a nap every afternoon.

Working 24 hours a day doesn’t make you more productive. Take breaks, go home, take a real nap. Often I have solved nasty problems by going home, and the solution came to me as I was driving away, or the next morning.”

Agree my friend, Oh yeah!! Take a SIESTA!! :)

what frank miller’s 300 can teach you about successful online business

Tuesday, April 3rd, 2007

I read on FuzzyFuture, how Miller?s 300 can teach you about successful online business, as I agree with author and I found it useful, here you are!

“Frank Miller must be an online entrepreneur in his spare time because 300 is the perfect metaphor for online business”

Miller?s 300 can teach you

I Know your surroundings, and choose the battleground that most suits your strengths.

II A handful of well trained soldiers can out-perform thousands of weak ones.

III A few good friends is better then an army of acquaintances.

IV The gods aren?t always right, do what?s best for yourself, above all else.

V Keep your skill set sharp, cause you never know when you might have to defend yourself.

VI Never retreat, never surrender.

VII Constantly adapt to your changing situation, it?s the only way to survive.

VIII Never be satisfied with your past accomplishments, it might just get you kicked down a bottomless pit.

IX Even a man-god can bleed.

X Even if you?re a hideous, misshapen troll, the right networking can get you riches and women.

edit your CSS

Tuesday, April 3rd, 2007

How do you edit your CSS?

Until I discovered the mozilla firefox developer toolbar with various web developer tools, to edit my CSS, I used to work with TopStyle.

But the mozilla toolbar has changed the way I used to design CSS, is very completed, allows you to edit the CSS alive until everything fits correctly and then export the source to a file. In order to save time is the best!

However if I need to do a quick check of a css style, I use csstype.com website, a nice tool for comparing different fonts and css parameters for web typography, giving you the code!
